- This year also wasn’t a very good year for art, I’m afraid. To be fair, I did a few more projects than normal; I did draw the entirety of Thorin and Company, the Elves of Mirkwood, as well as the entire playable cast of Mass Effect in Kells style, and a few large family portraits with traditional media. It was also my first year tabling at PCC and I had a blast and I wouldn’t mind tabling at more cons throughout the year, if I can afford to. I didn’t draw a lot, though, so that’s definitely something to improve on. Primary reason being: unfortunately, my art is connected to my self esteem, which fluctuates often. I tend to think too much about what I'm drawing before I actually draw and while sometimes that's okay, with me it's a huge crutch.
+ On the plus side, I feel like I’m closer to nailing down the kind of story(s) I want Enigma to be. I just feel like I’m not up to making a comic out of it; I want to try my hand at the prose novel approach, despite the fact that there’s so much great visuals in my head I’d love to try and illustrate.
+ 2013 was pretty great in terms of me being able to provide for myself; I held a total of 3 different jobs this year (worked at a movie theater, interned at an educational/informational multimedia studio, and did basic design/copy-editing + customer service at an online stationary company.) I successfully managed to prolong the last one—I’m now an extended contractor at Tiny Prints! Not sure I'm able to leave the nest just yet, though I desperately want too! But it could happen sooner than I thought...
Goals in 2014:
* Travel somewhere new.
* Do that jar thing (i.e. fill a glass jar with all the good things that happen throughout the year)
* Draw something every day.
Who knows what’ll happen this year, honestly; I never expected half the things that actually happened to me this year.
Here's to remaining cautiously optimistic,
